Trimming your dog’s nails can be scary, well at least to me it is. I am always afraid of cutting to much off and hurting them, but the nails needs trimmed so they don’t split them or crack one. So, trying different nail clippers out that don’t allow you to cut too far down and make them bleed is very important. Unless you’re a trained professional then you already know what, you have to do and how far to go.
So, I looked into a few pairs that have certain features on them that is helpful for someone like me. That will help you prevent over cutting and is comfortable in the hand to get the job done. I personally like the Gonicc Nail Clippers that we got it has a good amount of cutting strength.
Features:
Handle
The handle on this pet nail clipper is not too bulky it’s got a slick design to it. 80% of the handle is plastic then you have to outside grips that are no slip which is nice. Let’s say your dog doesn’t like his or her nails being cut, they will for sure try and get away. My one female Willow hates her nails being done and while using this specific product they did not slip out of my hands. As far as the non-slip handle goes its accurate.
With plastic handles I know they can sometimes feel cheaply put together, but I will say I don’t get that feeling when I am using them to trim the dog’s nails.
Safety Stop Guard
The safety guard is my favorite part of these dog nail clippers. I get nervous about cutting to far down and making them bleed or just cut too much off. Trying to find trimmers that meet the needs of what I am looking for with safety guards that are durable. I don’t like the plastic guards I find them too easy to break.
This guard is very interesting its adjustable to the direction that you are cutting left hand right hand. With the downward angle of the claw, you can adjust the guard to where it still meets the tip of the claw. That way you don’t overcut.
Stainless steel blade
Stainless steel blades are very good for clippers with durability and length of life with being sharp. This material is non rust and corrosion resistant meaning that they will stay sharp longer. It should allow you to have them longer than other styles of cutters. You want them to stay sharp for a cleaner cut on the nails, so you don’t damage the nail and hurt your dog.
Easy to clean and sanitize because of the non-rust and corrosion, hygiene is good when cutting the nails with all the stuff they walk through. You can use rubbing alcohol for the sanitizer.
If you’re using them regularly you might have to sharpen them up maybe every 3 to 6 months. If you feel like they aren’t cutting as good maybe sharpen them or invest in a new pair.
So far, the blade on this pair of dog nail clippers has cut clean and I didn’t struggle getting it done, except when they decided they didn’t want their nails clipped anymore.
Locking Mechanism
Simple plastic grade lock to keep the clippers closed while you’re not using them. Squeeze the handle a little bit to unlock and lock.
I like this feature of the nail clippers because after you cut the nails it is very possible that you will have a sharp edge on the nail. If you do you can use the file to get it smooth so when they jump up it will not dig into you.
