🐶 Blue Buffalo Blue Bits Review: My Go-To Dog Training Treats

Let’s talk about dog treats for training. If you’ve ever tried to teach your pup literally anything, you know how important the right treat is. Some are too crumbly, too big, too boring… or they just end up forgotten at the bottom of your coat pocket.

Enter: Blue Buffalo Blue Bits. These little guys have become a staple in my treat pouch, and after going through more bags than I can count, I figured it’s time to share the love with a full review.

🍗 What Are Blue Buffalo Blue Bits?

Blue Bits are soft, chewy, bite-sized treats made specifically for training. They come in a few different flavors (we’re partial to the chicken and salmon), and the first ingredient is always real meat. No by-products, no fake colors, no weird junk—just stuff dogs actually like.

Each treat is about the size of a pencil eraser and only has around 4 calories. Perfect for training sessions when you’re dishing them out constantly without feeling like you’re overfeeding.

💬 Why I Keep Buying Them

1. My Dog Goes Nuts for Them

I don’t know what kind of magic Blue Buffalo put in these treats, but my dog will do literally anything for one. Sit, stay, “leave it”—heck, he practically teaches himself when these are involved.

Even my picky friend’s Yorkie, who turns her nose up at almost everything, is obsessed with the salmon ones.

2. They’re Actually Pretty Healthy

I try to pay attention to what’s in my dog’s food, and I love that Blue Bits keep it clean:

  • Real meat (chicken, salmon, beef, or turkey)
  • Oatmeal and brown rice for easy digestion
  • Omega-3s and DHA for healthy brain development (especially great for puppies!)
  • No artificial flavors or colors

Plus, they’re wheat-free and don’t have any of those sketchy by-products some cheaper treats use.

3. Soft, Small, and Easy to Use

The texture is soft enough to break in half if needed, but not sticky or greasy. I’ve tossed them in my coat pocket during walks and they hold up surprisingly well.

Also: they don’t smell terrible! A huge plus when you’re handing out 20+ in a single session.

🤔 A Couple Things to Know

  • They’re not the cheapest. A bag can run you more than some of the bulk brands, and it goes fast if you’re doing a lot of training. But honestly, for the quality and how much my dog loves them, I’m okay with it.
  • They can dry out if you’re not careful. Make sure you seal the bag tightly—or just dump them in a treat jar to keep them soft.
  • Some recipes have sugar. It’s not a ton, but it’s worth noting if your dog has dietary restrictions or you’re super strict on ingredients.

🛒 Where to Get Them

I usually grab them from Amazon since they’re often cheaper than pet stores:

🐾 Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a training treat that your dog will actually work for, Blue Buffalo Blue Bits are totally worth trying. They’re healthy, tasty, and perfect for everything from basic commands to tricky tricks.

They’re definitely a favorite in our house—and training sessions wouldn’t be the same without them.

Dog parent tip: Keep a stash in your bag, your coat, your car… trust me. They come in handy when you least expect it!
